Seamless Cloud Migration for Smarter, Faster, and Scalable Business

Cloud Migration Services

WWG’s cloud migration consulting moves production applications and data to AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud for mid-market companies that cannot afford a failed cutover. Engineers assess your infrastructure, decide what moves as it is and what gets rethought, plan the migration with milestones, execute the transfer with minimal downtime and support the environment afterwards. Scope and timeline are fixed before the first workload moves.

Definition

What is cloud migration

Cloud migration is the move of applications and data from your own servers, or from an existing provider, to a cloud infrastructure. The work includes deciding what moves as it is and what gets rethought, transferring the data with a tested way back, and rewriting the release path so that it works on the new platform.

The engagement

Cloud migration in concrete terms

Duration
From a few weeks to several months, depending on the complexity of the infrastructure, the data volume and the number of applications. Fixed in the migration plan.
Start
After the initial consultation and the infrastructure assessment, which produce the migration plan. No workload moves before the plan is agreed.
Who does the work
WWG cloud engineers. A named owner follows the migration from assessment to post-migration support.
What we need from you
Access to current systems, an inventory of applications and data, a few hours with the people who operate them, one point of contact who approves each phase.
Output
Applications and data running on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or a hybrid setup, with a documented environment and a tested rollback at every step.
Format
A scoped project with phases and milestones, followed by an optional support and optimisation period. Managed operation afterwards is a separate monthly service.

The price is set after the assessment, as a fixed scope based on the number of applications, the data volume and how much must be rewritten. We do not publish a price list. The cloud provider’s bill is separate and is addressed in the optimisation phase.

Comparison

Cloud migration and the alternatives

A company that has decided to leave its own servers can migrate with its own team, through the cloud provider’s programmes, through a hosting company that includes a move, or with a consultancy. This table says what each is for.

Who it is forCompanies with production applications they depend on and no spare senior capacity.Companies with a cloud-experienced IT team and time to spare.Companies large enough to get direct provider attention.Companies that want one supplier for both the move and the hosting.
What it coversAssessment, plan, data and application transfer, post-migration support and optimisation.Whatever the team can cover next to its day job.Credits, tools and partner referrals; execution is usually someone else’s.Lift-and-shift onto that provider’s platform.
DurationWeeks to months, fixed in the plan.Often longer than planned, because it competes with operations.Depends on the partner doing the work.Fast for a simple move; the platform sets the limits.
What you getA documented environment you own, defined as code, with a rollback at each step.Knowledge stays in-house; so does the risk.Discounts and tooling; the design remains your problem.A running system, tied to that host’s platform.
When it makes senseThe move must not fail and must leave you independent of us afterwards.Small estate, no critical cutover.Combined with an execution partner; we work within these programmes.Simple workloads, no plans to change platform.

We work with AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, so the provider programme and the consultancy are not alternatives to each other. The table separates them because they cover different parts of the job.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Cloud migration is the move of applications and data from your own servers or an existing provider to a cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. What it does for a business is change how infrastructure is bought and run: capacity scales with demand instead of being sized for the peak, environments can be created from code, and hardware maintenance disappears. It does not, by itself, make an application faster or cheaper; that depends on what is rethought during the move, which is why the assessment step comes first.
A cloud migration consultant assesses your current infrastructure and applications, decides with you what should move as it is, what should be replatformed or rewritten and what should be retired, and plans the sequence, the milestones and the way back if something fails. At WWG the consultant is an engineer who then executes the migration and stays for the support and optimisation phase, rather than handing over a slide deck. The five steps are initial consultation, infrastructure assessment, migration planning, data and application migration, ongoing support and optimisation.
The seven types of cloud migration, often called the 7 Rs, are: rehost (move a workload as it is), replatform (small changes to use cloud services, for example a managed database), refactor (rearchitect the application for the cloud), repurchase (replace it with a SaaS product), relocate (move a virtualised environment without changing it), retain (leave it where it is for now) and retire (switch it off). A real migration uses several of them; deciding which applies to each application is the main output of the assessment and planning steps.
WWG’s cloud migration consulting covers the whole path: the initial consultation on goals, the assessment of your IT systems, the migration plan with timelines and milestones, the transfer of data and applications, and support and optimisation after the move. It is for mid-market companies with production software they depend on, moving from their own servers or from a hosting provider to AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud or a hybrid setup. If you only need the target environment run after the move, our managed AWS servers and cloud infrastructure maintenance services cover that.
How long a cloud migration takes depends on the complexity of your infrastructure, the volume of data and the number of applications being moved. It ranges from a few weeks to several months. The duration for your case is set in the planning step, as a roadmap with timelines and milestones, before the first workload moves; applications are usually migrated in phases, so part of the benefit arrives before the end.
The cost of a cloud migration has two parts. The migration work itself is priced by WWG as a fixed scope, defined after the assessment, based on the number of applications, the data volume and how much must be rewritten; we do not publish a price list, because two companies of similar size can need very different migrations. The second part is the ongoing cloud bill, which depends on what you run and how it is sized; controlling it is part of the optimisation phase and of our cloud cost optimisation service.
The risks of cloud migration are data loss or corruption during transfer, downtime at cutover, applications that behave differently on the new platform, a cloud bill higher than the old hosting because resources were sized by guess, and dependency on a single provider. Each has a control: verified backups and a rehearsed rollback, a phased migration outside operating hours, a test environment before production, right-sizing in the optimisation phase, and infrastructure defined as code so the setup is portable. The assessment step lists which risks apply to you.
Data loss during migration is the risk we plan for first. Before any transfer we take verified backups, we move data with procedures that check integrity on arrival, and we keep the source system intact until the target has been validated, so there is always a way back. The migration plan states which data moves when, and who signs off each step.
We support AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, plus hybrid setups where part of the estate stays on your own servers. On tooling, we use the providers’ own migration services where they fit and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform for the target environment; there is no fixed list of the top ten migration tools, because the right one depends on the source system and the target. The choice is made in the planning step and documented.
Business operations are protected by planning: migrations are scheduled outside operating hours or executed in phases, so that one application moves while the others keep running, and every step has a tested rollback. Some cutovers require a short, announced maintenance window; the plan says when, for how long, and what happens if the window is missed. Your team keeps working throughout.
The work is done by WWG cloud engineers, with a named owner who follows the migration from assessment to post-migration support and answers for it. From you we need access to the current infrastructure and applications, an inventory of what runs where (we help build it if it does not exist), a few hours with the people who operate the systems, and one point of contact who can approve each phase. Your own IT team is not replaced; it takes part in the plan and owns the environment afterwards.
After the migration you own a documented cloud environment, defined as code, with monitoring in place. The support and optimisation phase refines sizing and cost once real traffic is visible. Then you decide how to run it: with your own team, or with WWG through managed AWS servers or cloud infrastructure maintenance on a monthly fee. The migration engagement stands on its own; there is no obligation to continue.

Before and after the move

Lifting a system into the cloud is rarely the whole job: where a monolith has to come apart, migration to microservices runs alongside it. Once the workload has landed, the platform still needs running — through managed AWS servers and ongoing cloud infrastructure maintenance.
